Hello all.
It didn't take me as long to return as the last time. I have been working on clearing out stash and finishing UFO's.
In looking back at the most recent post in November, I said I was going to talk about my quilting journey. Maybe later in this blog. In January I started a stash buster project to use up yarn. I happened to have some recycled bulky yarn and I'm using it to make a Debbie Bliss pattern. It's a scarf that has three rows
of braided cable running sides and center-knitted length-wise. The pattern calls for making the scarf about 96" long. So far I am close to 60" and have more than enough yarn to knit for the full length. There are so many things to do that I have not been as diligent in working this as I might have. We made a car trip recently to attend a family funeral and I did quite a bit of work in the car. For variety I worked on a small crocheted blanket and a shawl. Guess I better get busy and work on these here at home as the time in our sewing group on Saturdays will be sewing baby quilts to give to our local Birth Choice.
As for the quilting, it was something I said I would never do. That was before I learned about rotary cutters and that it is now acceptable to machine quilt. Makes a world of difference. All this started when our sewing group on Saturdays had a visitor who taught us about making lap size quilts for those in our parish who are sick and in need of prayers and the comfort of a warm, soft blanket. My first attempt turned out to be a carriage throw size for a great niece. Next was one no one else had time to do for a parishioner, then two for family members of the company owners where I was working and a rag quilt for my nephew' son. I had been gathering materials for a pattern I wanted to make for myself and my oldest daughter decided she wanted a quilt. She chose the pattern, the fabric and did some of the sorting patches and ironing. When it was complete, I sent it out to a long arm quilter to be finished. I did a baby quilt and a doll quilt for me nephew and his wife for their baby girl December 2011 (finished and sent in Feb. 2012).My youngest daughter was expecting so at her request, I did a wall hanging - "I Love You to the Moon and Back." Since Colette arrived I have not had as much time for sewing as I would like. While I am looking for work, I plan on trying to get in some sewing and some more knitting. Tomorrow's agenda is housework. The dust bunnies are attacking everywhere, and my kitchen is in serious need of attention also.
With all the items listed here that I have completed, I need to start adding some pictures. Hopefully, I can figure that out soon.
Take care, and drop by again soon.
